Manufactured in 1851. Martially marked with a U.S. stamped under Colt's Patent on the left lower side of the frame. It also has the inspector cartouches on both sides of the one piece wood grip. The right side is marked W.A.T. (William Anderson Thornton) and the left side is marked J.C.B. (Joseph C. Bragg). Second model dragoon cylinders are roll engraved with the Ranger and Indian scene. The second model is distinguished by the square back trigger guard and the rectangular cylinder stops. With only 2700 of the second model Dragoon made, this is a scarce gun. In this high of condition it is a rare gun. Single line barrel address, "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY" runs from the muzzle toward the breach. All six pin safeties are still present. Full matching serial numbers are located on the barrel assembly, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. The last four digits of the serial number are located on the loading lever, wedge and on the arbor. CONDITION: This gun retains vast amounts of the original factory applied blue finish. There is some finish loss to mainly the right side. Lots of the original case color reman in the protected areas with the remainder turning a pleasing silver color. The screw heads have not been molested. The gun is crip and sharp. Very good bore with very strong lands and grooves. There is some slight frosting in the barrel. The brass has mellowed with age. Grips show a few slight handling marks. An outstanding addition to any collection.
