Gun (A) is a very fine circa 1867 civilian 1860 Army revolver featuring polished blued finish, German silver blade front sight, 1-line New York address, rebated cylinder rolled with sharp naval engagement scene, case hardened 3 screw frame, silver plated front strap, steel back strap, and varnished 1-piece smooth walnut grips. Gun (B) is circa 1868 and in identical configuration. The revolvers are housed in a period crushed velvet lined partitioned hardwood presentation case with brass corners and strapping. Case is also equipped with a blued "44H" marked Colt's Patent 2 cavity mold, Colt's Patent flask, L tool, packet of combustible envelope cartridges, Eley cap tin, and nipple tin with 4 spare nipples. CONDITION: Gun (A) is very fine. Approximately 50% original blue retained on the barrel, especially in the protected areas, the balance drifting to gray. Rebated portion of the cylinder retains the vast majority of its original blue, the rest of the cylinder largely patina. Legible cylinder scene. Strong and attractive case colors with some areas of fading including the underside of loading lever and recoil shield. Front strap has an overall mellow patina with strong traces of silver around the trigger guard. Backstrap has largely faded to patina with strong blue at the top and on the butt. Grips are very fine with only light marks and wear at the base. Strong bore. Crisp mechanics. Matching numbers observed throughout. Gun (B) rates very good to fine. Approximately 30% blue in the protected areas of the barrel drifting to brown patina. Balance of the gun also displays a pleasant brown patina. Largely legible cylinder scene with some light, cleaned older oxidation spots. Front strap has been cleaned with a few traces of silver retained. Grips appear to be replacements with some finish crackling and wear, fitting somewhat poorly. Strong bore with some black powder oxidation. Crisp mechanics. Matching numbers observed throughout, excluding the wedge, which does not match. Case and accessories are very good overall with some expected wear. A nice, attractive set that displays exceedingly well.
