Originally, Maynard carbines and rifles were fitted with both cap locks and Maynard tape priming systems; the 2nd model guns were simplified in 1863, utilizing only a cap lock for ignition. This early example is fitted with a standard length 26" rust blued octagon to round barrel with dovetail blade front sight and 3-leaf rear, tang is mounted with an additional folding mid range sight more common on 1st model rifles. The case hardened action is stamped on the left with patent information on the left and manufacturer information on the right. Stocked in gloss finished select grain walnut with a steel butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent for its age. Barrel retains nearly all of its original blue with some mild high edge silvering and other scattered marks. Action displays strong and bright case colors, some areas beginning to fade, especially on the lever. Stock rates very good, some scattered impressions present. Very fine and bright bore with some light cleaned abrasions. Fine mechanics. An excellent example of a Civil War era Maynard.
