Mid 18th century. The minor differences include the pommel cap designs, two different types of wrist escutcheons and only one of the triggers has a decorative rearward curl. Both have three-stage barrels with swamped muzzles, "LONDON" engraved on tops and breeches show private London view and proof marks as well as "IB" maker's mark. Convex lock plates with scroll engraving and "BUMFORD" in centers. Engraved brass furniture including military sideplates with panoplies of arms. Pommel caps engraved with drums and cannons. Walnut stocks of Georgian form, relief shells carved around barrel tangs in relief. CONDITION: Barrels show light pitting throughout and have been polished. Locks retain a light grey patina and both are in original flint and function well, the curl at the top of the post of one cock is broken and missing. The same pistol with this damage also has a hole on right side of pommel cap and a crack on the right side of the forend. The other pistol has a sliver missing on the underside of forend at the muzzle. Both have their original brass-tipped wooden ramrods.
