This is a mismatched MP-40 which was clearly at one time a deactivated gun. The lower assembly matches itself, but none of the other parts match in any way toeach other, but they are pre-May 1945 German parts. Nice clear Steyr "WaA 623" markings on receiver tube forward of magazine housing, with “bnz 42” marked lower assembly. Barrel resting bar is not present. Three original 32-round magazines are included. Barrel is Haenel (37) manufactured and mismatched "309m", with assembly number "2478B" on underside near barrel nut. Lower assembly is mismatched, "2510e", and manufactured by Steyr. Bolt is Steyr manufactured and numbered "514l". Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMANY” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good combination of original finish with quite a bit of touch-up cold blue on the receiver tube with gray patina and evidence of former deactivation at the ejection port. Several scars on the underside of the barrel near the front sight illustrate how the MP-40 was originally designed for armored vehicle troops with the “hook” at the front of the barrel intended to keep the muzzle outside of the vehicle when the gun was fired out of a steel vision slit of a vehicle. The rest of the arm exhibits a combination of original finish with gray and brown patina. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face extremely fine. Bakelite lower and grips are extremely fine with light handling marks. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full-auto only machine gun. This MP-40 provides a good illustration of a gun which has been fired out of a steel vision port of a vehicle, and with a bore in a condition seldom encountered. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2024-09-062
