Circa 1856 per serial number. Classic Third Model configuration with German silver blade front sight, and Gustave Young style engraving on faceted area of barrel lug, rammer lug, frame, recoil shield, and straps, with iconic wolf head on hammer. Matching full or partial numbers observed on frame, trigger guard, butt, barrel assembly, rammer, cylinder, wedge, and cylinder axle. Frame engraved "Colt's Patent" in a ribbon on left side of frame with New York address across top of barrel. One piece ivory grips. CONDITION: Partially restored, with metal a smooth mix of dove grey and a smooth chocolate patina. Engraving is crisp as more recently cut. Brass straps with some losses at right screw hole and evidence of heavy cleaning. Mechanically functional but very stiff, bore with well defined lands and frosting throughout. Ivory grips have been aged with appears to be a blowtorch. Cylinder axle remounted with evidence of repair in hammer recess. Stamps refreshed throughout.
