Manufactured in 1868. The octagon barrel still bears the Henry Patent legend. You will find matching serial numbers inside the walnut stock channel as well as the butt plate. The factory engraving is in the distinctive late Henry period Samuel Hodgson school. Both sides have the forward panel single floral leaf design with berries as found on page 31 in the Winchester engraving book on Model 1866, serial number 19163 The sides of receiver have flora and leaf pattern. There is also engraving on top of frame, upper tang, nose cap and the butt plate heel. Barrel is octagon with full tube magazine. Walnut stock has brass trap door rifle butt plate. Front sight is the knife blade style with 900 yard marked folding ladder rear sight. The serial number is stamped on the exposed lower tang. CONDITION: The stock is flush to metal with a small wood 1 1/4 " x 1/2" repair, maybe a filled in swivel. Stock has some added finish with scattered impressions. The forearm is proud to metal with some light impressions without the added finish. The brass butt plate trap door was replaced. There is a small repair on lower tang but tang is not cracked, may have filled an extra hole. There is also an almost invisible repair on tube at cap. The barrel and tube are a smooth homogenous brown patina with some blending blue and light wiped on finish. The barrel legends are crisp. The rear barrel sight slot has a homemade filler. The upper tang rear sight hole is empty. The action is fine. The bore is strongly defined with some light abrasion. The loading gate shows some wiped on blue as does the rear sight. Hammer and lever are patina.
