This is an 1863-64 era percussion carbine inspector stamped EAW on left side of barrel near breech. Elijah A Williams whom was a civilian inspector who started in 1863 through at least December of 1864 working part time at the Sharps plant. This standard carbine has the Sharps barrel legend and New Model 1863. The rear ladder sight has the Lawrence patent stamp. The left side of receiver has 1848 patent legend. The right side has the Lawrence and Sharps patent legends. The tang has the serial number. The left side of the stock at wrist has two visible cartouche stamps, visible but not totally legible. The butt of the left side of the stock has a unit or rack stamp D36. Also features the tape primer feeder, saddle ring and bar, carbine metal butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. The tang has a light crack. All metal finish is a cleaned grey. The wood is excellent with minor wear and few small dings. The bore is sharp and bright. Action works fine. A nice example of a prime mid war Civil War carbine. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
