It is believed John M. Browning, famed designer of numerous guns produced by Winchester, took partial payment for some of his designs in completed arms from Winchester. He sold these at his his sporting goods store in Ogden, Utah. As on many guns sold through his shop, this rifle is faintly stamped on the barrel "BROWNING BROS. CO. OGDEN. U.". Manufactured in 1892. Classic octagon barrel with full length magazine tube and sporting sights. Plain walnut forend. Replacement stock of nice figure with trap rifle butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Barrel and magazine have been cleaned to an even gray patina with an added protective coating with some cleaned freckling. Protected areas of the receiver display faded factory blue, the balance faded to patina. Forend is very fine with a few minor impressions and unusual pinprick holes, likely a correct replacement. Stock has some impressions and nicks, especially along the toe line but remains very good overall. Bore is very fine. Good mechanics. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
