One of 8,000 was purchased by the US government for use in the Civil War, and an additional 4500 was also privately purchased. The carbine length 22" barrel is fitted with a dovetailed blade front sight and 2-leaf rear. 1-piece walnut stock stamped on the left with a crisp boxed "HDH" Henry D. Hastings inspector cartouche and mounted in iron with a single barrel band, saddle ring, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Metal displays an even, attractive freckled plum patina, some areas slightly lighter. Stock is very fine with a few impressions. Fine bright and strong bore showing little use. A few oxidation spots present. Crisp mechanics. PROVENANCE: Jim Cyr Collection.
