In 1775 Major John Pitcairn led the British advance on Lexington carrying a pair of all steel Murdoch rams butt Scottish flintlock pistols. On the retreat from Concord, the pistols were lost and captured by Americans and presented to Major General Israel Putnam. This pair, part of a limited release of 900 by the US Historical society, beautifully replicates the originals. Barrels are floral scroll engraved with facetted cannon muzzles and fluted breeches. Stocks are likewise scroll engraved with belt hook and ball trigger. On the left side each is engraved in a panel "Lexington / April / 19, 1775", the opposing sides engraved with Pitcairn's crest. Pistols are accompanied by an attractive stand up display case with description plaque, as well as a 1979 dated letter from the Whitney Armory Museum to the original buyer. CONDITION: Excellent with only light handling. Display case is likewise fine.
