Shelter halves of the 1864 pattern were issued at least until the mid-1890s when the stock was fully exhausted. The US Army's response was the creation of the pattern 1892 shelter half that is constructed of 8 ounce white cotton duck with corners reinforced by 4" squares of the same material. The shelter half also featured worked and brass grommets which would accommodate wood poles in order to set up the shelter. Along the top edges are standard model 1885 pattern 4-hole metal trouser buttons with crosshatched rims that are matched with holes in order to couple the half shelter to another. This example conforms to the 1892 specifications and comes with wood poles as well as the correct 9" long wood pins. This example measures approximately 94" x 60". The material exhibits scattered stains and blemishes and exhibits a name that appears to read "Dan Coats". Also marked "A.3.4." No major holes or tears. CONDITION: Good.
