Production began in 1859, 900 were purchased by the US as the first bolt action adopted by the Army, with additional small militia purchases and a Russian contract for 3000 rifles. Full-length walnut stock mounted with 3 spring retained barrel bands and tool trap buttplate. No visible US inspection marks, possibly indicating militia or other purchase. CONDITION: Good.
