Letter signed, 2 p. 9 - 1/4 x 15", front and back, “New York October 23d 1765” certifying to “Commissioners of His Majesty’s Treasury” that he has made payment to contractors for “victualling His Majesty’s Forces in the Pennsylvania Department,” with an accounting of flour, beef, mutton, etc. delivered or destroyed. Best known for his 1775 handling of Boston, Gage was Commander in Chief of British forces in North America 1763-1775 and played a critical role in the French and Indian War and Pontiac’s Rebellion. CONDITION: Very good, but with portions of a mat backing adhering along top and bottom reverse edges.
