Bentley Mark VII. The R Type name, which is now applied stems from chassis series RT. The front of the model was identical to the Mark VI, but the boot nearly double in space. An automatic choke was added to the R Type’s carburetor and changes were made to the rear suspension.All R Type models used iron block aluminum-head inline 6 cylinder engines fed through twin SU carburetors. The engine displaced 278.6 cu in producing 130 hp. Transmissions were available in standard 4-speed manual and optional 4-speed automatic. The suspension was independent in the front with coil springs and semi elliptic leaf springs at the rear. With automatic transmission, t he Saloon had a top speed of 101 mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 13.25 seconds. A total of some 2500 R Type steel bodies were produced during their manufacture.Offered is a restored 1954 Bentley R Type Saloon. Produced in steel body, this right hand drive model was the finest in grand touring luxury sedans of its era. A beautiful red leather interior accents the two-toned black and silver exterior.
