The brand new Chevrolet Camaro was chosen to pace the 1967 Indy 500. Although an exact number of Pace Cars produced is unknown, it is assumed that 2-3 were produced to pace the race, 30 were used as parade festival cars, 40 brass hat cars for company executives and 100 replicas were made for distribution to the Chevrolet Dealers. The original #1 Chevy Camaro was won by Indy’s 1967 winner, AJ Foyt. Foyt, however, turned down the car due to it not having air conditioning or a power top. GM would later build a car for AJ with those two options. The Pace Car was built with both 396 and 350 cu in motors. A floor mounted hydramatic and 4-speed transmission were offered. All cars came in Ermine White with Bright Blue interior and stripe on the nose of the car. An Indianapolis 500 decal kit was included with each of the models.Offered is a total rotisserie restored example of the 1967 Indy Pace Car Camaro SS/RS Convertible. With appropriate Pace Car cowl trim tag coding, this rare classic is even more desirable, having the factory 4-speed transmission. The car retains a matching number motor, transmission and rear differential. Attention to detail and authenticity are present everywhere on this beautifully done restoration. The engine bay and underside of the car are spotless. The drive train has been completely disassembled and rebuilt to factory specification. This rare and collectible classic represents one of the most desirable and investment caliber Camaros available today. • 350/290 V8• 4-Speed Transmission• Rotisserie Restoration• Numbers Matching
