C. 1890–1920. Devotional shrine walking cane featuring a hinged hardwood handle opening to reveal a carved bone religious figure, likely Madonna or saint, holding a floral garland. Cylindrical case with hinged panels, brass hinges and latch, mounted to a dark hardwood shaft with decorative silver-toned collar. Likely Continental European manufacture. Very good overall with minor surface wear and natural age discoloration to the bone figure. Figure appears to have been reglued on one side at some point. Hinged panels operate properly. Hardware intact. Shaft straight and structurally sound with light wear consistent with age. Length: 36".
