Circa first quarter of the 17th century. Distinct form with a high comb and dual peaks. 2 piece construction with 8 floral rosettes. Top of comb is rolled over, with 2 pins fastening the pieces together at each peak. Each side of the bowl is decorated with a repoussed fleur-de-lis. Top of comb and edges are roped. Blackened ground, with gilt accents on the fleur-de-lis and comb. Weighs 2 lbs 10.7 oz. CONDITION: Very good, with ground an even mixture of chocolate patina and black. Gilding is very good, with the fleur-de-lis retaining most of the gilding, with some losses on left side. Left side of comb has retains just shy of half of the gilding, while right side is much better and retains the majority. Holes are at brim, just under each fleur-de-lis. Interior rough from the hammer. Some slight gaps at the base of each peak where they meet the comb. A lovely example. EMW
