.28 bore percussion with a 3-1/2" barrel. Manufactured 1867 to 1870. This is referred to as the Model 7 of which 2,925 were manufactured. It was designed by Elijah Root, one of Colt's premier designers. It is standard in all respects. All metal surfaces are a smooth brown patina. Strong barrel legend. There is no trace of the cylinder scene present. The walnut grips are original and in excellent condition with most of the original varnish. It is a five shot, single action, spur trigger with an octagon barrel and under loading lever. Missing the cylinder pin retaining screw and two of the frame screws are slightly burred. The cylinder does index but does not lock into place. Bore is strong with light frosting. With some minor mechanical attention and a couple of new screws, it would be a fine example.
