American brass eagle pommel sword with spadroon blade, blued, dry point etched, gilt washed and bright etched, with engraved brass scabbard. Floral motifs on cast knuckle guard and quillon. Openwork cast floral langets. CONDITION: Good. Brass is medium tone with no gilt remaining. Eagle head and floral elements of hilt are nicely cast and well defined. White bone grip carved channels, chevrons, etc. shows age shrinkage along top under back strap. Hairline crack obverse near pommel, reverse full length, but bone is stable. Hilt on the whole has looseness. Blade shows some small brown spotting and overall greying making color and etching visible but less distinct. Gold wash is evident, blue appears softer and bright etched panels subdued. Brass scabbard is good, with medium tone, obverse floral etching at drag and either side of ring mounts. Eagle perched on US shield between upper mounts. Some scattered grey dusting on lower portion. Very small dent lower edge near drag. SR. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
