Lot consists of four items: (A) Detailed Dec. 24, 1782, 2p. affidavit made out at St. Augustine, E. Florida, by South Carolina Loyalist Colonel Daniel Plummer, WIA Kings Mountain, recounting the theft of household goods and other material he was shipping, by Rebels on board a galley that had been flying English colors in the run-up to the British evacuation of Charleston. Detailed 2p. account of the event, and 1p. list of losses, items. CONDITION: Excellent. Two 1764 letters to Capt. Andrew Simpson, 35th Regiment, in Florida. (B) Feb. 12, 1764 from Edinburgh. 3p. 7 - 1/2 x 12” Inquires about Pensacola, has news of various officers, mentions officers at Edinburgh including “many Americans.” CONDITION: small loss to right margin p.3. Remnant red wax seal. (C) Feb. 16, 1764 letter with cover sheet from Richard Allen, Dublin. A fairly newsy letter: officers ordered to rejoin regiments in America, relief of regiments there, exchange of commissions, friends at Pensacola, pensions, references to Wilkes’ expulsion from House of Commons, etc. CONDITION: Fair. 1 X 2 in. hole lower right, though the 3 pages with some loss of text. (D) Insurance document by “Mr. Clarkson” and “Dr. Miller” regarding lost medical supplies. Apparently connected with Fort Pitt, but with reference at bottom to expenses at New Orleans and payment for passage of three “Batteau men.” CONDITION: Excellent. Largest 7 - 1/2 x 12 in. The Plummer letter is particularly interesting, regarding retrieval of his daughter’s clothing. He was well regarded by both sides in the frequently murderous back country fighting.
