Fine quality and condition U.S. Navy Rear Admiral's visor cap with gilt wire oak leaf embroidery on the cloth-faced visor, and USN insignia embroidered on the front. Gilt chin strap with navy side buttons. Brown leather sweatband, black satin lining embossed in silver: "Rear Admiral B.F. Day/ U.S.N./ S. N. Meyer/ Manufacturer/ 1411 Penna. Ave. N.W./ Washington, D.C.". Benjamin F. Day graduated from the Naval Academy in 1862 serving on the frigates "New London" and "Colorado" and on the ironclad "Saugus". Day was promoted Rear Admiral on March 29, 1899 and retired March 28, 1900. CONDITION: Cap is in excellent condition showing only minor wear. From the Ray Bentley collection.
