IMPORTANT EL PASO DOCUMENT "DEPUTATION" OF MANNY CLEMENTS

1902 deputization document appointing Emmanuel Clements as a Deputy Sheriff in El Paso, Texas by Sheriff James H. Boone. Clements was a major player in El Paso and associated with many of the key players on both sides of the law. Emmanuel "Manny" Clements, Jr. was the son of "Big Mannen" Clements, a west Texas cattleman, and the cousin of John Wesley Hardin. His sister grew up to marry the notorious "Killer Jim" Miller. James Henry Boone was a cowboy, U.S. Customs mounted inspector, sheriff of El Paso County and proprietor of the Washington Park entertainment venue in El Paso. An 1899 article described Boone as an "intrepid and dashing" law enforcement officer who was "very popular" and "feared by all outlaws". Signed by Boone, Clements and others. Very legible and clear signatures with two county pressure seals visible. A scarce piece of Texas law enforcement ephemera. CONDITION: Very Fine with no foxing or damage.
