1900, GERMANY: During the 1890's to early 1900, the Kalliope Musikwerke produced a large number of disc-type music boxes under the "Kalliope" name, but some were produced with the "Calliope" spelling. This would be one of those examples. Coin operation with 106 extra wide teeth playing a 45cm disc (17 - 3/4") and the added feature of a token dispenser, most likely utilized as a trade stimulator. Kalliope was known for exceptional tonal quality, and this example certainly exemplifies that assessment. This music box comes with an original stand and 12 discs. CONSIDERATIONS: The beautiful walnut case has been restored showing just light wear from handling. All mechanical components of the music box were also restored and operate correctly. The top gallery was reproduced and matches the box perfectly. The base cabinet is equipped with storage compartments, and the coin operation works as intended. A wonderful example of an early manufacturer, and ready for any collection.
