Lot consists of: two bronze 1 pound naval cannons both circa. 1750, probably French. Both measure about 26 - 1/2" in length including the cascabel. Both have bores measuring about 1 - 1/2" in diameter. They feature flared muzzles and each tube is decorated with four sets of relief bands. Carriages measure about 15" wide, including wheels by about 14" in height, 23" in lengths, over length is about 31", and overall height is about 17 - 1/2". Across the trunnions they measure about 9" each. Both tubes are tapered. Wooden carriages are contemporary and feature well patinated bronze mounts. Both tubes retain a heavy dark patina with some marks from use. Both touch holes appear to have been moved slightly during the period of use. Carriages are in excellent condition, showing only minor marks. One wooden trunnion mount pin is absent. Mounts retain a dark green patina and are well aged. Iron wheel covers retain a dark patina as well. A matching nearly identical brace of 18th century naval guns is very scarce. These cannons differ only slightly with the turnings on the muzzle face and slightly on the cascabel. They are very attractive and are well mounted, making an impressive presentation. DMG
