(a) The portraits have descended in the sitters' family. The couple is identified as Edward Charles and Alice Martha Sheppard who married in 1825 in Lambeth, England. The couple and their only child, Charles Edward, are listed in the 1830 census of Lambeth, London.
Condition: Man: Good, with old restoration throughout background and surface grime, discolored varnish and small paint loss. Woman: Good restored condition, lined with restoration in her blue dress.
(b) This portrait has descended within the family of the sitter who is identified as Charles Edward Sheppard, the son of Edward Charles and Alice Sheppard who married in 1825 in Lambeth, England. The 1830 census lists the couple and one one child Charles Edward. His father, Edward bought Charles a 400 acre farm called Roundways, where sheep were bred.
