Lot contains: (A) Federal issue enlisted kepi with dark wool body, bound leather visor, leather chin strap and eagle side buttons. The front displays a Model 1872 enlisted cavalry cap insignia. Interior leather sweatband embossed with silver highlights "Horstmann Bros & Co Philadelphia Contract May 31, 1892". CONDITION: Sweatband was re-stitched within its working life. Black cotton lining fully intact. Wool body is in excellent condition with no holes or damage. (B) Officer's kepi featuring a direct embroidered toned bullion 17th infantry insignia on the front, twisted wire chin strap with eagle "I" side buttons. Crown displays a partial "The Warnock Co" embossed logo. The 17th Infantry served in North Dakota and fought at The Little Big Horn. CONDITION: Wool body is in excellent condition. Underside of the unbound tarred visor shows heavy crazing, sweatband fully intact, interior lining partially removed. (C) Model 1895 officer's cap with direct bullion embroidered eagle insignia twisted wire chin strap and eagle side buttons. CONDITION: No crown lining, the leather sweatband is partially detached and shows wear. Wool body is in very good condition showing little wear. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
