LOT OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR RHODE ISLAND DOCUMENTS, BATTLE LETTER, RESOLUTIONS.

Lot consists of five items: (A) Rare Sept. 4, 1778, letter from a soldier in the Battle of Rhode Island. “. . . We made a stand at the North Port of the Island. The enemy Advanced onto our Right Where Genl Vernoms Brigade Lay The Enemy Rushed on with all firing and came to Bayonetts Points the Enemy was repulsed 3 times and then Retired Genl Glover’s brigade was posted on the left and was ordered to Advance and Did but the enemy gave way but the main body lying in such a situation we could not come at them with safety. . . this you may rely on that it was a severe action . . .” 2 p. 8 x 13 in. CONDITION: Fair with holes and losses, but some legible strong details and a scarce contemporary account. (B) 1781 RI General Assembly votes and resolutions. Payments to individuals, requisitions, supply quotas, appointment of militia officers, etc. 40 pages, 8 x 12 - 3/4 in, sewn. Last page, 41, is a facsimile. CONDITION: Fair. Losses to edges, some insect damage. (C) Francis Brinley (Jr.) correspondence concerning objections to oaths of allegiance, the luring of servants away from their masters by a “certain society,” business transactions, etc. 8 pages, 7 - 1/2 x 9 in. edge glued to ledger page. (D) Ledger page with five 1783 depositions on losses suffered by the Malbone family to occupying British and Hessian troops, including one by Francis Brinley (Jr.) 14 - 3/4 x 8 in. each, edge glued to ledger page. CONDITION: Very good, but with small 1/4 x 1/2 in burn through last three documents at upper right affecting one or two words of each. (E) “General Return of Provisions & Stores” issued April to September 1780 to troops in the Department of Rhode Island. CONDITION: Fair. Vertical separations on folds creating five pages, 12 X 8 in. each. Minor foxing. One hole affecting three numerical entries.
