This old Remington is about as rare and lovely as they get. It is a special order grade 7, which was the highest quality Remington manufactured. The barrel length measures 29 7/8 inches with chamber lengths of 2 3/4 inches. The right bore diameter is .742 and choke constriction of .022 making it a light modified choke. The left barrel bore diameter is .743 and has a constriction of .032 making it a light full choke. Unfortunately, the barrels have repaired dents which were lifted about ten inches from the muzzle. The dents are unnoticeable from the outside, but careful examination reveals them when looking through the muzzle. The fore-end is magnificently checkered with a black ebony tip inlaid at the front. The receiver is beautifully engraved in a scroll pattern and shows some vivid case colors on the left side. Both hammers are scroll engraved and look magnificent. The trigger guard is masterfully engraved with a pointing dog. The highly figured walnut butt stock features a capped pistol grip, a spear head raised on the side panel and what appears to be a carved clover on the top of the wrist. The length of pull is 14 1/4 inches to its original Remington butt plate. The butt plate has a spur or widow peak at the heel. The butt stock shows almost all of its original wood finish and rates excellent. There are no production records on this Model 1889, but one has to guess only a handful were manufactured. This may be the finest example in existence.
