41" barrel, .41bore-percussion.Interesting full stock percussion rifle, both the barrel and lock are stamped Penn. Rifle Works which would indicate an organized company employing a team of skilled workmen much like the gun guild in Belgium and Italy in which one person would be employed in the manufacture of the different aspects of the rifle. In Italy and Belgium, these workers performed their duties in different locations and the final product was assembled elsewhere. We do not know if this was the case with this company. This quality mid 19 century full stock rifle features a full octagon barrel with a set rear sight and a dove tail front sight(missing), the breech has 2 gold or brass bands, lock and barrel are a smooth dark chocolate brown patina. The beautiful walnut stock is not finished in the striped pattern. The barrel is attached with 3 wedges, the rod is housed in 3 brass thimbles, and there is a finely engraved brass palm plate. The rather rakish brass trigger guard is finely engraved and sports set triggers, the brass patch box is an unusual oval shape with fine engraving with brass butt and toe plate. It has a typical small Pennsylvania style cheek piece on left side. The wood stock remains in near mint condition with a beautiful finish. Extremely fine condition and handsome Pennsylvanian long rifle.
