39" barrel, .50 percussionThis classic long rifle is stamped D. Derr on the top barrel flat. The lock is stamped and appears to be a Lehman but is hard to read. Three members of the Derr family were involved in the gun business in Berks County, Pa. between 1805 and 1860. This rifle features a full octagon barrel with a set rear sight and a brass dove tail front. Features a full stock with a brass tip, double set triggers with brass trigger guard, and a small brass toe plate. The patch box and butt plate are unadorned with sans any engraving, has a brass thumb plaque, small left side cheek piece, brass palm plate. Rod is retained by 3 brass thimbles. This was a well-built no frills rifle and has no decorations of any kind. This patch box design is pictured on plate 192 in the Kentucky rifle patch boxes book by Chandler. All brass is a deep dark mustard patina that has never been cleaned, the barrel and lock are a smooth dark brown patina, the stock is in excellent condition with no cracks or repairs. A beautiful all original Berks County, Pa. Full stock long rifle from a well-known gunsmith family. The only alteration appears to be a replaced nipple.
