42" barrel in .60 bore-percussion. Offered is a mid-19th century half stock full octagon barrel large bore percussion sporting rifle. Lock was manufactured by Askew & Paxton of Philadelphia. Rifle is not maker stamped. Barrel features fixed rear sight, small brass front. Has a full under rib, two steel retaining thimbles, brass retaining thimble and nickel forend tip at end of stock; double set triggers; brass buttplate, toe plate, and trigger guard. Stock is finely checkered at wrist. Has the small Pennsylvania style cheek piece on left side. Sports a brass presentation plaque and thumb pad. Metal is a dark brown chocolate patina. The wood is excellent with a small crack contained at toe. Brass is a dark mustard patina. Has a flower finial. Lovely early half stock sporting rifle.
