37" barrel, .54bore-percussionHighly unusual Pennsylvanian manufactured heavy octagon barrel full stock target rifle. The top of the barrel has the initials E S with a four point star. A nearly identical signature and patch box can be seen on plate 626 in the Kentucky Rifle Patch Boxes by Chandler. The signature appears to be that of Elias Specht who operated a gun shop in Beavertown, Snyder County, Pa. Circa 1850. The lock was manufactured by G. Golcher. The rifle features set rear sight with an extra rear sight slot at breech with an extra tap hole at tang and there is a little screw adjustable peep sight at rear of tang. There are two different sized slot cuts at front of barrel, one is empty and the other has a wind drift front sight. Sports a full stock with the striped finish, the original rod has a brass tip and is held in place by 3 brass thimbles. There is a brass butt plate with the push button patch box release as well as a brass tow plate(missing 2 brads) and has extended decorative brass heel plate that extends the length of the stock comb. The patch box is unadorned and is nearly identical to the one pictured in the Patch box book. The barrel is a soft gun metal gray with age freckling as is the lock. The hammer is a dark chocolate brown, sports adjustable double set triggers, the stock is in excellent condition with a beautiful finish and is interesting to note that the left cheek piece also has a brass plate. Extremely high quality workmanship and rarely seen. Heavy barrel target rifle of the highest quality in fine all original condition.
