Barrels are 9 3/8", .44bore percussionOffered is a fine matching set of Philadelphia dueling pistols. The engraved percussion locks are stamped JON n Sowers Philadelphia. Brass hardware with brass butt caps. These pistols come with an authentic mahogany Joseph C. Grubb and Company, Philadelphia, Pa. gun case. These pistols were purchased from Jackson Arms in 1964 at which time it was believed they were made by Sowers in the 1840s or 1850s and were cased with accessories in accompanying case by Grubb and Company who were major dealers in Philadelphia. (Original letter dated February 18, 1964 from Jackson Arms detailing the sale of these pistols accompanying set). Mr Jackson states in his letter that the drum on one pistol was replaced and with the exception of that repair he believed the guns are entirely original and outstanding excellent specimens of their type. All metal surfaces are gun gray patina with brass mountings, wood stocks are very good with a couple of very minor expert repairs on some grain separation that are barely noticeable, cased accessories include: period flask, horn handle brush, wood handle turn key, single cavity bullet mold stamped 68, a wrench, some wads and cap tin. Faded purple lining with original dealer label in a period display box with original handle.
