Barrel length is 17". The lock on this early Blunderbuss is stamped McDaniel, who was a fairly well known maker of firearms in Ireland in the 1840s and 1850s. The style of Blunderbuss utilized by the Irish Constabulary. Fairly typical Blunderbuss with the part octagon barrel that opens to 2 1/4 inches at muzzle. Has attached folding bayonet at top. The top barrel flat is stamped McDaniel Monaghan M-N 4069. The bayonet is locked into position by a hammerlock on top tang and locks into place at barrel. Has a beautifully checkered walnut stock that sports two barrel retaining pins with two thimbles to retain metal rod. Trigger guard exhibits light engraving. Butt plate is smooth with the long top heel tang. Engraved and stamped M-N 4069. The wood retains the majority of the original piano finish with some minor abrasions. Checkering is fully visible but has smoothed out in spots. Left side of stock has an inlaid silver heart. Metal is a smooth gun metal-dark gray patina. Very fine Irish Blunderbuss.
