.45 LC with a 5-1/2" barrel. The Colt factory letter states that this gun was shipped on January 22nd, 1881 in a shipment of ten guns to J.P. Moores & Sons in New York. It is listed as a .45 caliber with nickel finish, barrel length and stocks are not listed. Gun currently sports a 5-1/2" barrel and the walnut stocks have a eagle and snake carved on right panel. Generally during the time period when barrel is not listed, would indicate a 7-1/2" barrel from factory. This barrel measures exactly 5-1/2, the crown is proper and the front sight setback is proper. It is impossible to determine if the barrel was shortened or just not listed on the factory letter. Revolver retains traces of nickel finish. The grips are shy to metal and are probable replacements. Cylinder pin is a replacement. Cylinder stop is not working. Bore is near mint. The ejector rod head is replaced. Overall metal surface has a grey shiny nickel appearance, having been cleaned. Handsome black powder cowboy gun that needs a little mechanical attention.
