Serial number is 2707, barrel length is 32-5/8", caliber is 50-70 govt. This is an excellent example of an 1863 dated US musket converted at the Springfield armory using the Allen's patent which allowed the Trapdoor conversion to fire the self contained 50 caliber government cartridge. Side plate is dated 1863 with US Springfield eagle. The block is dated 1869 with eagle head and U.S. Right side of barrel is stamped 2707, has the later style folding ladder carbine sight, the stock cartouche is no longer visible but stock is in excellent condition with no cracks and usual abrasions. All metal surfaces are a blue brown patina with some light salt and pepper blending with the finish from rear sight back including hammer and side plate. Strong rifle bore with some abrasions and no visible rifling in the last 2".
