Serial number is 8777, caliber is .54 percussion, barrel length is 22". This model is referred to as the transition type or fourth model. Approximately 7,000 were manufactured between 1863-1864. All metal surfaces of this rifle are a dark gray mottled patina. The hammer is missing the retaining screw, walnut stocks are very good with no cracks, numerous dents and bruises, some chipping along edge of forearm at barrel and the initials F.E.W. carved into the stock. The Burnside was a very popular and heavily used carbine during the Civil War and almost all of the fourth models saw use. This is a true fourth model as there is no screw on the center of the frame. Has original sights and saddle ring.
