Caliber is .50 rim fire, barrel length is 22". These were manufactured by the Meriden Mfg. Co. in Meriden, CT in 1864-1865. They feature a 7" shot magazine tube in butt loaded through the front. It has iron mountings with a single barrel band. 5,000 of these carbines were contracted on January 2, 1865 for the state of Kentucky and were mustered into service to protect the supply lines for the Union Army of Sherman but were received too late for service. This carbine is in all original condition but is missing the sling swivels. The entire wrist is cracked from side to side, metal is a spotted brown gray gun metal, the screws all have some degree of burrs, has the original rear sight. Interesting and rare gun but in near relic condition.
