34-1/2” octagon barrel in .44 bore-percussion. The barrel and lock are stamped “C. Siebert Columbl’s O.” (Columbus, Ohio). Christian Siebert was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1822 where he lived until 1886. Produced rifles in Columbus, Ohio from 1852 to 1886. He was from a famous gun making family, renowned through that area for his quality sporting rifle. This rifle features a full octagon barrel with a solid under rib. The rod is retained with two steel thimbles. Standing rear sight with a small blade front. It is a half stock with the striped finish. Has a brass buttplate, toe plate, and patch box. Features a brass trigger guard with double set triggers. There is no cheek piece on left side. Stock is in excellent condition but there is a brass period repair on left wrist. Barrel and lock are a smooth brown chocolate patina. There is an inscribed silver thumb plate. Original nipple. The triggers set, but hammer will not fall, so will need some minor mechanical attention. The brass is dark patina having never been cleaned. Very handsome mid-19th century high quality half stock sporting rifle.
