40" barrel in .58 bore-percussion. This is an early standard issue model 1861 U.S. rifle-musket manufactured at Springfield Armory. Standard features include three U.S. marked barrel bands, folding leaf rear sight, U.S. marked buttplate and walnut stock. Sling swivels are missing and nipple has been replaced. Homemade screw plate on left panel. Metal is brown patina with some corrosion at breech, date not readable. Proofs present but not readable. Stock is very good with no cracks, but numerous abrasions. Good example of a standard Civil War rifle.
