.45 ACP with a 5-1/2" barrel. This is a commercial offering of the standard Model 1917 and does not have any U.S. markings. This example has the seal of Brazil on the right side of the frame and is dated 1937. It has re-import marks on bottom barrel lug and was shipped back to the United States at one point. Manufactured 1917 to 1946. Features blued finish, six shot, double action. Retains about 50% original factory blue with the balance thinning to gun metal grey. Perfect action and lock up. Nice case colors on hammer. Original lanyard ring intact. The grips have been replaced with a set of later diamond checkered Smith's, but are ill-fitting. This example is far better than most of these and would benefit greatly from a pair of pre-war Smith & Wesson grips.
