These were originally manufactured 1863 to 1875 with a .36 bore percussion. This revolver was converted to fire .38 cartridges during the early 1870s for the US Navy. This is 1 of 1,000 total converted. Features a 7-1/2" barrel, six shot, single action. All metal surfaces are a smooth soft chocolate brown with sharp barrel legend. Has a blade front sight. Original walnut grips are very good. The original owner has carved his name on left side "E.S. Hayne". The butt is carved "W.M" and "Jones". Left side of frame has the machining flaw where shield was filed off as per the McDowell book on percussion conversions, which indicates factory work. Perfect bore and action. A very clean example that saw use in both the Civil War and the Frontier with period ownership on grips. Great looking cowboy gun.
