Serial no 34782. Caliber is 50-70 GOVT. Barrel length is 32 5/8 inches. This was the last of the US Springfields to use the combination of leftover civil war parts and trap door conversions. These were manufactured from 1870 to 1873 and only approximately 11,533 were ever manufactured. The breech block is dated 1870 with eagle head and US. The side plate is dated 1864. Serial number is stamped on left side of barrel and receiver breach. Rifle exhibits original parts and retains virtually all of the re-applied blued finish with the exception of the side plate which has been nickel plated. Walnut stock is in excellent condition with a two inch hair line crack on left side between retainer bolts and it has been refinished. Right side of stock is stamped W.B.C. with a professional stamp. Rifle is accompanied by the original bayonet and leather frog with original hanger and brass tip. Also includes the very rare original style single brass frog sling.
