A similar cast iron target can be found in the December 23rd, 1885 Army & Navy Christmas catalog. It is 12" in diameter. Features a cast iron duck at the top. It is mechanically operated so that the bell rings each time the duck is hit. The cast iron target retains approximately 50% of the original grey factory paint and has never been touched-up, repainted, restored or fixed neither inside or outside All original. Metal duck on top measures 4" long, 2" high, is made of black cast iron, and has original red paint on back, bill, and neck. There are no dents or divots where anyone has shot large caliber ammunition at it. We can find no maker's mark anywhere on it to identify it as Quackenbush. These early cast iron carnival type targets have become accepted in the folk art world as a literal art form and are highly collectible, especially in unusual mechanical configurations with figures.
