King George the First ruled England from 1714-1727. Both are stamped with the "GR" proof and crown and are listed at the 'Pattern 40". The "GR" stands for George Rex "King George" and pattern 40 is probably a guard number. The Stir ups were used by the royal palace guards during this period and were issued to the Calvary. These are made of steel with riveted plates. They have the protective foot cage with the blunt toe. These fancy metal stirrups are seldom seen outside of museums.
