.44 rimfire with a 24" barrel. This marvelous engraved Henry rifle was manufactured in 1866, the year that both the Henry and newer model 1866 were manufactured simultaneously. Both the engraving and the condition of this rifle are worthy of special attention. Both sides of the brass frame are engraved in a distinctive Gustave Young flavor with the finely cut scrolls. The right side features an extremely detailed bison. Left side features a likewise highly detailed stag and doe. The forward area of the frame has a decorative border. Top of the frame is engraved in script "Antonio L. Carvaral", the letters are highly stylized and our spelling may be incorrect. The brass buttplate has light engraving on heel and the base of the receiver behind the lifter. The barrel has the proper Henry stamp and the original ladder folding rear sight. Barrel and tube are a soft mix of blue-brown patina with some freckling with sharp edges, sharp legends with average age freckling. The lever is a brown patina and hammer is gun metal grey. Butt stock is in near mint condition with beautiful grain. Matching number inside but was refinished at one time and is a bit shy to metal. Stock has the original sling swivel, as does barrel. The buttplate, buttplate screws and tang have all matching numbers. Strong rifled bore, still shiny with minor abrasions. Very special, handsome engraved Henry in far above average condition. Replaced mainspring screw. In working order. Some further research into this presentation may add some historical anecdotes.
