24" barrel chambered for .38-40 WCF. This special order Winchester was manufactured in 1883 and was shipped from the warehouse on December 3rd. Factory letter lists this rifle as follows: .38 caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, fancy stock, shotgun butt, half magazine, case hardened with graduated peep and Beach sights. This rifle conforms to all of the above listed data as manufactured. The octagon barrel retains approximately 97% of the original factory blue finish with razor sharp edges and deep stamped barrel legend. It retains the special order front sight, the long range Winchester peep sight with the standard sporting Winchester rear sight. The frame colors have patterned out with an overall dull nickel appearance with flashes of color in recesses as has lever and hammer. The frame that was used for this rifle has the screws that filled the saddle ring stud holes. The brass carrier has sharp legend and has not been cleaned. Has the proper dust cover. Sharp screws but the right sideplate screw is a replacement. Loading gate retains approximately 30% original blue. Deluxe grain highly figured oil finished walnut stocks are excellent, all original, proud to metal with no cracks or major chips of any kind. Just a few minor impressions, retaining most of their original finish. The smooth shotgun buttplate has turned a grey soft patina. Action is perfect. Bore exhibits strong rifling. An extremely handsome, all original, untouched special order Winchester that has remained in very fine condition with one of the most handsome profiles ever manufactured.
