.40 bore with a 30" barrel. Offered is a fine, all original Sharps Model 1874 Mid-Range rifle manufactured at the Bridgeport plant. Features 30" full octagon barrel, Lawrence folding rear ladder sight, case colored frame, walnut stock and shotgun buttplate. Barrel has the "Old Reliable" and "Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeport, Conn." stamped on top of the barrel with "Calibre .40" at breach. Has a Sharps sporting tang sight (page 212 Sharps by Sellers book). Front sight has the base, but the sight is missing. Standard sporting steel shotgun buttplate (middle plate, page 213 Sellers). It has a sling swivel in butt, the barrel has a smooth blue-brown patina retaining 97% coverage with sharp edges and strong legends. Case colors on frame have darkened with some pattern visible. Walnut stocks are excellent with a deep, dark, rich finish, no cracks, only a very few minor abrasions, a small chip at comb and plate and a small chip at wrist retaining screw. Has a strong clean bore with some minor abrasion. Perfect action. One screw in left side that is slightly burred, all others are perfect. Rifle was manufactured for tang sight, as serial number is stamped above it. An extremely nice all original Sharps 1874 mid-range rifle that just needs a front sight. Factory letter states: Invoiced at Bridgeport May 14, 1877. 1874 Mid-Range No. 3 -40 cal.-2 1/4" shell 30" barrel ordered with "sling and swivels" Shipped to: E.K. Tryon Jr. & Co., Philadelphia, Pa.
