23" chambered for .50-70 gov't caliber. This Sharps carbine was issued as a standard Model 1863 percussion during the Civil War. After the war came to a close, a number of these carbines were converted by the U.S. government to fire the .50-70 gov't cartridge, this is such a carbine. It is standard in all respects with the full round barrel, post front sight, military carbine rear sight, walnut stocks, single barrel band, saddle ring and bar with carbine buttplate. The barrel retains approximately 85% of the arsenal reapplied blue finish. Case colors on frame have turned a soft grey. Walnut stocks are very good having been replaced/refinished and are a bit shy at toe. The buttplate used was from an 1859 Model, as it has the patch box cut. Bore is strong with some black powder abrasion. Action is perfect. The frame legends are strong, barrel legend is readable. No cartouche visible on stocks. Carbine rear sight was refinished at time of conversion. Can no longer read patent dates.
